Tannis in her East Vancouver studio

BIO & STATEMENt

Tannis is an expressive, figurative painter working in oil, acrylic and gouache. She likes to explore familiar yet curious narratives in her work. Her artistic exploration was encouraged from an early age by her artist Father Don. Tannis grew up in the wonderfully cultural atmosphere of Montreal. She studied Fine Art and Applied Arts at college and university in both Montreal and Toronto and graduated with a fifth year fellowship from the Ontario College of Art. Tannis worked as an Advertising Art Director, Graphic Designer and Illustrator, balancing this over the years with her personal work. She now focuses solely on her fine art practice.

Tannis works in her studio at 1000 Parker Street and takes part in the annual Eastside Culture Crawl. She is a founding member of the art collective “13 feet off the ground”, is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has participated in art residencies in Sicily and Mexico. She has exhibited her work at various galleries and venues around greater Vancouver and her work is held in private collections in Canada, the US and Europe.

My art expresses a love of life and heartfelt connections, and the sensory experiences that make life so rich. Through my art, I hope to touch kindred spirits, warm hearts, and arouse curiosity.
